A big step has come forward to take India's defense power to new heights. DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization) has developed an advanced defense system that can destroy enemy nuclear missiles in the air itself. This indigenous ballistic missile defense (BMD) system has been developed with India's own technology and it is capable of destroying the enemy's missile before it falls on the ground whether it is inside the atmosphere or outside. This means that if the nuclear missile is stopped at the beginning of the flight, then the risk of radiation or explosion is eliminated.
India's strength was seen in Operation Sindoor
During 'Operation Sindoor', the indian Army showed the world that self-reliant india is now ahead in military technology as well. In this operation, india thwarted enemy attacks using its own missile system, radar and anti-drone weapons. After this operation, prime minister Narendra Modi had clearly said that now india will not give any importance to Pakistan's nuclear threats.
What is BMD system?
BMD i.e. Ballistic Missile Defense System is a multi-level security system which has two main phases.
Prithvi air Defense (PAD): This system can destroy enemy missiles at an altitude of 50 to 80 kilometers.
Advanced air Defense (AAD): It can stop enemy missiles even at an altitude of 30 kilometers.
