Dhaiiryarajsinh Rathod, four months old, was given a Rs 16 crore shot to treat his life-threatening illness. Spina Muscular Atrophy Type 1 is treated with the injection Zolgensma. The money for the baby boy's care was collected by crowdfunding on the internet. The child's family is from Kanesar village in Gujarat's Mahisagar district. On tuesday, the baby was admitted to a mumbai hospital.

On wednesday, the kid received the gene therapy injection. After a one-day assessment period, the patient will be discharged from the hospital. Following requests from a variety of sources, the government had previously waived the drug's responsibility. Customs duty of about 5-6 crore was also levied on the drug. When the parents learned about the medicine, which is worth Rs16 crore, they had no choice but to seek assistance from others. The funds were collected in just 42 days.

"The injection arrived from the US a few days back. We reached mumbai on tuesday and admitted our son to the hospital, where he was given the Zolgensma injection on Wednesday. It is a one-time gene therapy to treat children suffering from spinal muscular atrophy," as per the report in PTI.
