Taming bulls: madurai Avaniyapuram Jallikattu begins!


Avaniyapuram Jallikattu started in tamil Nadu with over 300 bull tamers enlisting for the event on the day of pongal, around 5,000 bulls have been enlisted to partake in three events on Friday. The first bull-taming event of the year was held in the Pudukottai district on january 13, a total of 600 bulls were registered for the event and the event administrator had allotted a time frame to each tamer to tame the bull, finally the winner is decided by the duration of a tamer who holds on the hump of the bull.


Jallikattu competitions begin in madurai Avaniyapuram today, Palamedu, and Alankanallur on the eve of the pongal festival which is world-famous. The Avaniyapuram Jallikattu pongal day is taking place today and tomorrow at Palamedu and on 17th at Alankanallur.

700 bulls and 300 cowboys are battling in Jallikkatu, the Finance minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan, and minister Murthy flagged off the Avaniyapuram Jallikattu competition. Eminent personalities including the madurai district collector have participated in the event. At first, the temple bull was unleashed. The Cowboys are trying to suppress them. Medical teams are on standby at the venue to ensure that Avaniyapuram Jallikattu is held safely and police are engaged in security work. Only a small number of visitors are allowed to see Avaniyapuram Jallikattau.
