According to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he reminded US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on friday that israel has pledged to "destroy Hamas" and that they cannot be stopped. The US diplomat met with Netanyahu in Jerusalem at the Prime Minister's Office.

"I told him that we had sworn, and that I had sworn, to destroy Hamas." Nothing will stand in our way," Netanyahu was reported as saying by the Times of Israel. Before any military actions in southern Gaza, Antony Blinken emphasised the importance of guaranteeing humanitarian and civilian protection. He also asked Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu to take quick action to hold settler extremists accountable for violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.

The top diplomat also reaffirmed the US commitment to taking concrete efforts towards establishing a Palestinian state that lives in peace, freedom, and security alongside israel, according to the statement. Blinken also underlined the US's support for Israel's right to defend itself against terrorist attacks in accordance with international humanitarian law.
