Former chief minister K Chandrasekhara Rao was expected to contest the parliament rather than go to the assembly to escape disgrace. As a result, there was anticipation that ktr might be appointed as the Opposition leader. But it appears that kcr has chosen to put an end to all those rumors. On the first day of the assembly, BRS MLAs gathered and overwhelmingly elected kcr as the BRS Party's Legislative Leader. He will be the head of the opposition and will have to fight the congress government in the Assembly.

Fortunately for BRS, they have a sizable presence in the Assembly. The Upper house of congress had only one member. kcr would try hard to corner the government. ktr and Harish Rao's academic expertise would also be helpful for him. Meanwhile, kcr is currently recovering from hip replacement surgery at Yashoda Hospital and may require 6-8 weeks of recuperation.

As a result, he did not take the oath of office as an mla today, while the remaining MLAs did so in the assembly presided by Pro-tem Speaker Akbaruddin Owaisi. When he recovers, he will take the oath of office when the full-time Speaker is chosen. Meanwhile, if kcr does not run in the Parliamentary elections, BRS will need to take a new approach in order to compete with the Opposition.
