Arunachal Pradesh "was, is, and will always remain" an essential and inalienable part of india, the country has said, in spite of china continuing its unfounded claims about the region. Days after prime minister Narendra Modi's visit, china referred to Arunachal Pradesh as a "inherent part of China's territory," according to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

Our stance on the issue of Arunachal Pradesh has been repeatedly stated. We released a statement on this recently as well. We will not budge from our position, no matter how many times china repeats its unfounded accusations. A spokeswoman for the MEA stated that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always be an essential and inalienable part of India.

China filed a diplomatic complaint after PM Modi opened the Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh on march 9. Spokesman Wang Wenbin for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said, "China never recognised the so-called Arunachal Pradesh illegally set up by india and firmly opposes it."

The indian government had then referred to it as "absurd" and stated, "Repeating baseless arguments in this regard [by China] does not lend such claims any validity."

On march 27, senior officials from china and india convened in beijing to begin a new round of negotiations. The MEA claims that there was no progress made during the extensive discussion between the parties about how to accomplish "complete disengagement" and their agreement to "maintain regular contact" via diplomatic and military channels.
