Days have passed since the devastating pahalgam terror attack on april 22, which claimed the lives of 26 people—mostly tourists—and was one of the most vicious attacks to hit the Valley in recent memory.
Senior officials say that intelligence suggests terrorist organizations have a concerted plan to launch "audacious" attacks in the next several days that will target non-residents, members of the minority Kashmiri Pandit community, security personnel, and infrastructure projects.
"In light of these inputs, all vulnerable locations are under close surveillance. Security presence has been significantly increased around railway stations, migrant worker accommodations, and areas inhabited by minorities," an official said. "Kashmiri Pandit government employees have been advised to work from home as a precaution."
To prevent any strikes, he said, security forces are undertaking intelligence-based searches and have stepped up area dominance operations. Electronic surveillance has been turned on in sensitive places, checkpoints have been expanded, and night patrols have been intensified.
Given the shock and public outcry that followed the pahalgam massacre, the notice has raised widespread fears of a fresh wave of bloodshed in the Valley. Authorities have promised that every effort is being made to safeguard civilians and stop such assaults.
