During the lok sabha debate on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, Samajwadi party MP akhilesh yadav criticized the bharatiya janata party and the central government.
He claimed the ruling party seeks to usurp everything, citing indigo airlines as an example: either their airplanes are not flying or are being restricted, despite promises that even the poor could travel.
Significance of Vande Mataram
Akhilesh highlighted the historical importance of Vande Mataram, noting it gave people energy, strength, and unity during the fight against british rule.
The song, popularized by rabindranath tagore at the calcutta session, was a rallying cry in the Swadeshi movement.
Its power to unite the country alarmed the british, who responded by arresting those raising the slogan.
Criticism of Misuse Today
Akhilesh questioned the modern-day understanding of Vande Mataram, saying, "What will they know about the importance of Vande Mataram?"
He accused some groups of trying to use it to divide the country rather than unite it.
He emphasized that Vande Mataram is not a tool for pretense or political showmanship and that those who did not participate in the freedom struggle cannot grasp its significance.
Accusation of Anti-National Behavior
Akhilesh stated, "Some people used to spy and inform for the British."
He clarified that these individuals were not nationalists, but anti-nationalists, and their intentions were wrong and divisive.
He further criticized their misuse of national symbols, including the image of Bharat Mata, created by great leaders from Bengal, highlighting their betrayal of the country’s ideals.
Message to the Nation
Akhilesh concluded that the country recognizes the wrong intentions of such people.
He stressed that true nationalism involves living up to the spirit of Vande Mataram, not using it for political or personal gain.
