Drug-related problems appear to be entangling the malayalam film industry these days. Actor Shine tom Chacko's case already caused a great deal of debate. director Khalid Rahman, who made Alipuzha Jinkhana a major blockbuster, has now been implicated in a narcotics case, making headlines.

Kerala police arrested Khalid Rahman, another director, Ashraf Hamza, and a third individual, Shalif Mohammed, at around two in the morning yesterday.  The investigation began when police searched cinematographer sameer Thahir's flat near Gosree Bridge in kochi and discovered 1.6 grams of hybrid marijuana.

Station bail has been granted to the three, according to reports in the local media.  But given the gravity of the charges, they might find it difficult to avoid more legal issues.  It appears that authorities carried out a well-planned search after receiving a confidential tip, and they discovered the drugs—a theme that is currently quite popular in the malayalam film industry.

This instance demonstrates the open usage of pharmaceuticals in the industry.  Actor Shine tom Chacko recently had to apologize when actress Vincy filed complaints against him, and the film association threatened to ban him if he did the same mistake again.

It's regrettable that Khalid Rahman, who had a promising future following blockbusters like Alipuzha Jinkhana and Thallumaala, is now embroiled in a narcotics scandal.  Critics point out that although movies discuss the risks of drugs, some movie stars do not live up to the same standards in real life.

Mammootty, Mohanlal, Priyadarshan, and fazil are senior industry veterans who have worked on hundreds of films without becoming embroiled in controversy.  Unfortunately, after making only a few films, today's up-and-coming filmmakers are going in the wrong direction.  Many are concerned that the malayalam cinema industry is being negatively impacted by these incidences.
