Following last week's horrific terror assault in pahalgam, Kashmir, there has been an unexpected increase in military resignations and desertion requests, according to a classified warning circulating within the pakistan Army. The advisory also warns of growing concerns of conflict with India.

Major General Faisal mehmood Malik, director general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), gave the advisory to all military ranks on april 26.  It pointed to the "Mujahideens" attack in pahalgam, which left 26 people dead and 17 injured, as the cause of the escalating anger in the army.

According to the document, the incident has "escalated fears of war with india," and "huge requests for resignation and desertion" are being reported. It warned that unauthorized resignations or desertions would face strict action under the pakistan army Act 1952. The advisory directed military officers to uphold their oath, maintain morale through darbars (gatherings to boost troop spirit), and reaffirm loyalty to the nation. "You are the heirs of our Shuhada," the letter said, urging soldiers to "stand united under the crescent and star."

Growing rumors of internal strife within Pakistan's military establishment coincide with the leak. Growing divisions between groups supporting current army Chief Gen. Asim Munir and those supporting former generals Faiz Hameed and Qamar Javed Bajwa have been seen by analysts.

India has further isolated Islamabad diplomatically by suspending important accords with pakistan and closing border crossings as a result of the pahalgam attack, which has precipitously increased tensions in South Asia.

The alleged internal dissension inside the pakistan army may present new difficulties for a government already dealing with political upheaval and economic instability as regional tensions increase.
