Naxal: Tricolor hoisted in Naxalite stronghold, one of the biggest operations against insurgency, 24 thousand soldiers involved


Operations against Naxalites have gained momentum since the bjp government came to power in Chhattisgarh. Since january 2024, 350 Naxalites have been killed in various encounters and most of these encounters took place in the Bastar region.


The area of Karregutta hill, located at an altitude of five thousand meters on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, was once considered a stronghold of Naxalites. However, now when the Naxalite movement is counting its last breaths, this fort of Naxalites has also collapsed. The security forces have hoisted the tricolor on Karregutta hill. Operation Karregutta, which has been going on for the last nine days, is still going on. Top Naxalite leaders like Hidma, Deva, Damodar, Azad, and Sujata were hiding on Karregutta Hill, but now it is completely under the control of the security forces and the tricolor is waving proudly.

Operation Karregutta is one of the biggest operations against insurgency in the country. About 24 thousand security personnel were involved in the operation conducted in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. These included DRG (District Reserve Guard), Bastar Fighters, and soldiers of all units of state police including STF, CRPF, and Cobra Battalion. Also, the entire operation was monitored through helicopters and drone units. Karregutta Hill was an important strategic hideout for Naxalites. chhattisgarh CM Vishnudev Sai monitored the entire operation and gave necessary instructions to the officials. CRPF DG GP Singh is also keeping an eye on the entire operation.


Operation Karregutta started on 21 AprilKarregutta hill area is spread over an area of about 800 square kilometers and it is adjacent to Bijapur district of chhattisgarh and mulugu district of Telangana. It was considered the most suitable place for the Naxalites to hide and this was the reason why it was the hideout of the top leaders of the Naxalites. This was the center of Battalion Number One of the People's Liberation Guerrilla army, the most important in terms of military strength of the Naxalites. Weapons and other necessary items were sent to the soldiers through helicopters for the operation.


Union home minister amit shah has announced that Naxalism will be eradicated from the country by March 31, 2026. Operation Karregutta is important in this regard. The government has made it clear that there will be no talks with the Naxalites. The security forces had received intelligence that more than 500 Naxalites, including top Naxalite leaders Hidma, Barsha Devi, and Damodar, top leaders of People's Liberation Guerrilla army Battalion Number One, telangana State Committee and Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, were on the Karregutta hill.


Operations against Naxalites have gained momentum since the bjp government came to power in Chhattisgarh. Since january 2024, 350 Naxalites have been killed in various encounters and most of these encounters took place in the Bastar region. 18 Naxalites were killed in an encounter on March 29. This year itself, 144 Naxalites have been targeted. So far this year, 300 Naxalites have surrendered. The surrendered Naxalites have been given financial assistance of Rs 50,000 and rehabilitated under the government policy. In the year 2024, 792 Naxalites surrendered in the Bastar region consisting of seven districts.
