One of Thunderbolts*'s writers explains why Spider-Man, Daredevil, and other heroes are conspicuously missing from the film's pivotal fight against The Void. In the MCU, New York City has had many calamities. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Statue of Liberty was almost destroyed in the last fight, and in Daredevil: Born Again, Mayor Wilson Fisk established a risky task force to combat vigilante behavior. The most recent MCU movie, Thunderbolts*, is about a conflict that took place in New York and was nearly apocalyptic.

The Void takes control of Bob/Sentry at the movie's climax, engulfing New York City in darkness and forcing hundreds or thousands of people to endure their most traumatic experiences in a black hole.  Although Bob is able to seize control of The Void and save everyone with the Thunderbolts' assistance, New York nevertheless suffered some damage, and the threat was significant enough to call for the appearance of additional heroes.

Regarding the other heroes, Thunderbolts* author Eric Pearson was evasive in his response to the india Herald, but he did mention that time functions differently in The Void. He said, "I'm going to take the fifth on that one. I haven't looked at the map closely enough of where it went. I'm not sure if it went to Bleecker Street yet. But I also think that the time of it is happening so much faster than you expect. That expansion and retraction of time is different. As we say in Thor: Ragnarok, 'Time works real different around here.' When you're in the Void Space, who knows how long it's been? Maybe it's been one second."
