Early on Wednesday, india targeted areas in pakistan and Pakistan-occupied kashmir that were associated to terrorism. The indian government declared the strikes "focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature" in a statement released at 2 a.m., announcing the attack, which was code-named Operation Sindoor.
 
The government said in a statement that the attack, which followed the pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives, targeted terrorist infrastructure in pakistan and Pakistan-occupied kashmir - SRINAGAR/JAMMU' target='_blank' title='jammu and kashmir-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>jammu and kashmir, which is where terrorist attacks against india have been organized and carried out.


The strikes, which targeted nine areas in pakistan and Pakistan-occupied kashmir, were carried out as part of a coordinated operation involving all three armed services, sources subsequently informed india Herald. All air Force pilots participating in the mission are safe, according to sources.  
The targets included the Pakistani cities of Bahawalpur and Mudrike, which are home to the headquarters of the terrorist organizations Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, respectively. The indian Army wrote "Justice is served" early on Wednesday, announcing the mission's codename.

Pakistan promised to strike again at a "time and place of its choosing" in response to the strikes, according to news agency AFP.
 
Pakistan's military official told Geo news that the attacks have killed eight persons and injured another twelve.  According to pakistan, the affected areas include Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.
 
Days after a number of authorities, including home minister amit shah and Defence minister Rajnath Singh, pledged a forceful reaction to India's adversaries, the attack on the terror installations occurred amid heightened tensions between india and Pakistan.  


Earlier, government sources informed india Herald that prime minister Narendra Modi gave the three chiefs of the armed forces "full operational freedom" to choose how to respond to the pahalgam attack during a high-level meeting.
 
"We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable," the government said of the attacks in a statement released today.
 
Later today, there will be a thorough official briefing on Operation Sindoor.
