Although Fast & Furious 11 has long been one of the most anticipated films, production appears to have significantly slowed down in recent months.  Given how many fantastic storylines were established in Fast X, it is somewhat annoying that there have been so few updates regarding this intriguing sequel.  Although the movie has always been promoted as the "last" installment in this venerable series, that may no longer be the case.

Several intriguing spinoff films set in the Fast & Furious universe have also been announced, but it appears that production on these has also paused.  The most prominent example is Hobbs & Reyes, which was announced a few years ago after Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) made a comeback in Fast X and was rumored to be released between Fast X and Fast 11.  It's difficult to understand how this potential spinoff fits into the bigger picture, though, given that Fast 11 is reportedly set to conclude the story permanently in less than a year.

After Johnson's character returned to the action franchise after the Fast X post-credits scene, there was still talk of a Hobbs & Reyes movie, despite the fact that almost little about the potential spin-off was really verified.  The sequence made it clear that Agent Hobbs was the next target for Jason Momoa's character, Dante Reyes, and the spin-off film would have most likely followed his futile attempts to bring Hobbs down.

Reyes fights Dom Toretto and his friends throughout Fast X in retaliation for his father's passing during Fast Five.  Momoa's quirky portrayal solidified him as the focal point of the most recent movie, and he swiftly emerged as a fan favorite villain.  The surprising announcement of Johnson's return at the end of Fast X seemed to derail the majority of viewers' expectations that Fast 11 would just be a continuation of this rivalry because it looked like too much to put into one film, especially the last one.

Hobbs & Reyes was an intriguing idea because it gives these two characters the chance to develop their relationship and settle their grudges without interfering with Fast X and Fast 11's ongoing plot.  Without it, there's a good chance that this action franchise's grand conclusion would be packed.  The story must be Dom's, and having Hobbs return at the very end seems like it may be distracting.
