Chennai: The madras high court has ordered the continuation of an interim ban restraining the unauthorized commercial use of actor Kamal Haasan’s name, image, and likeness.

Court Extends Interim Injunction

The high court reaffirmed its earlier interim order prohibiting individuals, companies, and organizations from using Kamal Haasan’s photograph, name, or any related attributes for commercial gain without obtaining prior permission. The restriction will remain in force until further orders from the court.

Protection of Personality and Publicity Rights

The case centers on the protection of the actor’s personality and publicity rights. The court observed that a public figure’s name and image cannot be commercially exploited without authorization, as such use may mislead the public and infringe upon the individual’s legal rights.

Commercial Misuse Under Scrutiny

The legal action was initiated following allegations that certain parties were using Kamal Haasan’s identity for promotional and commercial activities without consent. The court’s decision aims to prevent unauthorized endorsements and safeguard the actor’s reputation and proprietary rights.

Next Hearing

The matter has been posted for further hearing on a later date. Until then, the interim injunction will continue to remain in effect.

Kamal Haasan, a prominent actor and political figure, continues to receive legal protection against the unauthorized commercial exploitation of his identity.
