On a petition seeking to prevent the re-entry of Chinese fashion brand Shein goods into the indian digital marketplace through amazon, the delhi High court has given notice to the Centre and Amazon.

The plea was given notice by a bench of Chief Justice D N patel and Justice Jyoti Singh on the grounds that Shein had been temporarily banned in india by the Centre last year for being detrimental to India's interest and sovereignty.

The court, on the other hand, has declined to issue an interim injunction to halt the sale at this time. Senior Advocate vivek Raj Singh, representing petitioner Ananttika Singh, requested the court to interfere, stating that “data would be transferred to a Chinese company” unless the court intervenes.

Raj Singh said in court that advertising on amazon advertised the sale of Shein goods as part of the company's prime day offer. Despite the government of india banning 59 Chinese applications on june 29, 2020, he stated no actions were done to halt the sale. The court responded, "We'll see on the returnable date."

On august 20, the case will be heard again. Ananttika Singh has asked the supreme court to order amazon to halt its relationship with Shein till the Centre's prohibition is overturned. Shein and its products were barred from utilising data from indian consumers in a way that jeopardised the country's interests and sovereignty.
