The atrocities are tragically connected together with a single thread: love! They are spread across time and place. It has now been shown that love relationships, including adulterous ones, account for more than 10% of all homicides in the country. According to the National Crime Records Bureau's newly released Crime in india Year 2020 report, love relationships were responsible for 3,031 of the 29,193 documented murders.

That might refer to a failed marriage, a romantic rivalry, or its suspicion, as well as other deeper feelings arising from passion. The NCRB, on the other hand, grouped these motivations under two main headings: "love affairs" and "illicit partnerships."

In India's overall murder stats from 2010 to 2014, such killings accounted for 78% of all murders. However, it increased to 11% between 2016 and 2020, when the overall number of homicides was on the down.

Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, tamil Nadu, and gujarat are among the states where similar occurrences have been reported. According to the latest NCRB data, homicides connected to romantic relationships accounted for little over 15% of all such deaths in the country in the most populous UP. Kerala, West Bengal, and the northeastern states are among the states that have recorded fewer such occurrences.
