In the adaptation of Jerker Virdborg's novel Black Crab, writer-director Adam Berg (In) created a unique and intriguing vision. The action-adventure film, starring Noomi Rapace (The girl with the Dragon Tattoo), features magnificent imagery and source material that is both fascinating and timely. The cast is full of fascinating new faces that American audiences will get to see for the first time, and the english dubbing is flawless because some performers do their own dubbing. In terms of sheer action, Black Crab could be the first picture of 2022 to truly offer anything fresh in the genre, and cinematographer Jonas Alarik is on top of his game. Black Crab is somewhat longer than average, but it's too cool to notice.

Caroline (Noomi Rapace) loses her daughter in the chaos as europe devolves into a militarised hot zone, and she joins the new military to find her. She and five other troops must transfer a mystery gadget across a frigid archipelago after being recruited into the new administration. Because of the battle, they must travel at night. They ice skate across miles of river, armed with jackets, an untrustworthy team member, and automatic weapons.

The one genuine flaw in Black Crab occurs at the very end, when the tone the film worked so hard to build, both musically and aesthetically, is entirely undermined. Apart from that, Black Crab is an almost two-hour adrenaline rush shot in the style of a Denis Villeneuve film. Every shot of the actors ice skating with assault guns will leave moviegoers speechless. These sequences make one wish that Black Crab had been released in theatres so that they could be seen on the big screen. Alarik outdid himself with the skaters' tracking, overhead, and wide shots, which were not only stunning but also made the audience admire every other component of the picture much more.
