S. jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, claimed that problems abound during India's G20 chairmanship. He has also given the reason for this. He says that this happened because of too much East-West polarization and North-South division. In 'India-UN for Global South: Delivering for Development' in New York, USA, the External Affairs minister talked about India's presidency of the G20 and the G20 summit held in New Delhi.
The External Affairs minister said that india, through its G20 presidency, was committed to ensuring that the summit could be held on its original agenda. Addressing officials of several major countries in New York, jaishankar said, 'Your presence means a lot to us. It also expresses the feelings that you feel for India. We met a few weeks after the G20 meeting in New Delhi. This conference was held on the theme of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'.
Jaishankar said, 'G20 was a challenging summit. It was indeed a challenging presidency. This was because we faced very high East-West polarization as well as a very deep North-South divide. He further said, 'But as President of the G20, we wanted to ensure that the organization on which the world has so much hope can return to its original agenda.'
The External Affairs minister stressed that the basic agenda of the G20 summit under the chairmanship of india was global growth and development. Therefore, it was very important that we start our G20 presidency by becoming the voice of the Global South Summit. This is an exercise in which 125 countries of the South were involved. He also told how the Global South is facing problems. This includes everything from economic challenges to war.
