Previously on World Tribal Day, current cm and congress leader ashok gehlot had announced to
increase Rajasthan’s OBC reservation from 21% to 27% and make a separate reservation of 6
percent for original OBCs.
At present, in Rajasthan, sc gets 16 percent reservation, st gets 12 percent, OBC gets 21 percent,
EWS gets 10 percent and MBC gets 5 percent. Now if Gehlot’s announcement is implemented then
after increasing the OBC reservation to 27 percent, there will be 70 percent reservation in the state.
Now let us understand how important OBC voters are to register victory in Rajasthan.
If we look carefully at the politics of Rajasthan, the entire state seems divided into castes. None of
the castes included in the OBC category in the state are visible on one platform. But it is also true
that the dominance of OBC is overwhelming over any other reserved and unreserved classes.
To understand the mathematics of OBCs in Rajasthan, it is most important to understand the
statistics of panchayati Raj.
In the year 2015, 783 posts of Sarpanch were reserved for OBC in Rajasthan, but 1017 people of
this category became Sarpanch. If we look at the figures of OBC women, only 966 women were
elected on 2412 seats among the general women in the state. But OBC women crossed the 646
posts reserved for them and won 2001 seats.
