There are currently 19 Muslim MLAs in the 243-member bihar Assembly. Of these, 12 are from Rashtriya
Janata Dal, 4 from congress, 1 each from janata dal united, mla and AIMIM. There are more Yadavs (52
MLAs), Rajputs (28 MLAs) and Bhumihar (21 MLAs) than Muslims in the assembly. Yadav population is 14
percent, Rajput is 3.4 percent and Bhumihar is 2.8 percent. There are 7 Muslim MLCs in bihar, which include 3
from janata dal united, 2 from Rashtriya Janata Dal, one from bharatiya janata party and one independent.
There are total 75 members in bihar Legislative Council.
Talking about the cabinet, Nitish government includes 5 Muslim ministers and 8 Yadavs. There are 3 Muslim
ministers in the government from Rashtriya Janata Dal and one Muslim minister each from Congress-Janata Dal
United quota. Talking about Yadavs, there is 1 minister from janata dal united and 7 from Rashtriya Janata Dal
in the Yadav government.
Among the 10 big departments given to Rashtriya Janata Dal, not a single department is with the leaders who
became ministers from Muslim quota. From Muslim quota, minister Israel Mansoori has been given lesser
departments like IT, Shamim ahmed is law and Shahnawaz has been given lesser departments like disaster
management.
On the contrary, leaders who became ministers from Yadav quota have big departments. Both the sons of Lalu
Yadav hold important departments like health, urban development, road construction, rural works, forest and
environment. Chandrashekhar Yadav is in charge of education and Surendra Yadav is in charge of Cooperative
Ministry. Bijendra Yadav, who became minister from Yadav quota in janata dal united, has important
portfolios like energy and planning. If we talk about the parliamentary system, bihar is the only Muslim Lok
Sabha MP. Mohammad Javed won the elections from Kishanganj seat in 2019 on congress ticket. There are 40
lok sabha seats in Bihar. There are definitely 2 Muslim MPs in the 16-seat Rajya Sabha. Rashtriya Janata Dal
has sent Fayaz ahmed and ahmed Ashfaq Karim to rajya sabha on its symbol. If we talk about decision
making, Muslims are lagging behind in Bihar. There are no Muslims on posts like Chief minister, Deputy Chief
minister, Speaker of the Assembly, Chairman of the Legislative Council and leader of Opposition.
