The family of the 41 workers who were rescued from the Silkyara tunnel after being stranded inside for 17 days sighed a big sigh of relief. A phone call between one of the rescued labourers from West Bengal, Soubhik Pakhira, and his mother, Laxmi, captures the emotional fervour of the occasion.

"Have they done your health check-up?" the mother questioned her son in Bengali.

He said, "Yes, they have checked up, and now they will take us to the hospital."

During an emotional reunion, the mother requested that her son explain every event upon his return. A worried relative agreed, and encouraged the rescued worker to "come home safe."

"God has always looked over you," the mother said. You have set a new world record! "I am overjoyed to have carried a son like you in my womb."

The woman continues, telling her son that media personnel were recording their conversation.

At the end of the call, she instructs her son to "take a bath and put on fresh clothes," and she mentions that she sent puja flowers to him.

On november 12, 41 workmen became trapped in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi after a section of the tunnel collapsed. On Tuesday, 17 days later, rescuers were able to safely take them out.
