Asaduddin Owaisi, the Chief of All india Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and lok sabha mp from Hyderabad, underscored the significance of the Places of Worship Act in upholding secular values enshrined in the indian Constitution. He emphasized that the Act imposes obligations to ensure non-derogation from these fundamental constitutional principles, with secularism being a core component.

Owaisi asserted that non-retrogression is integral to the fundamental constitutional ethos, and the Places of Worship Act serves as a legislative measure to safeguard this non-regression as an essential aspect of India's secular values. Owaisi's statement coincided with the supreme Court's decision not to prohibit the Hindu community from worshipping in the southern basement of the Gyanvapi Mosque.

The supreme court clarified that the order issued on january 31 did not impact the offering of Namaz. Additionally, the supreme court issued a notice to the kashi vishwanath temple Trust in response to a petition filed by the Masjid Arrangement Committee, directing it to maintain the status quo regarding the offering of Namaz in the Gyanvapi complex of Varanasi. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for the third week of July.

The supreme court is currently hearing a fresh petition filed by the Gyanvapi Masjid Arrangement Committee, challenging the allahabad High Court's decision affirming the permission granted by a subordinate court for the Hindu community to worship in the southern basement of the mosque. The bench, headed by Chief Justice of india (CJI) DY Chandrachud, has also directed priest Shailendra Kumar Pathak Vyas to submit his response to the Masjid Committee's petition by april 30.

Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, part of the apex court bench, are also reviewing the petition filed by the Masjid Arrangement Committee, which oversees the management of the Gyanvapi Masjid. Previously, on february 26, the high court dismissed the committee's application challenging the district Court's decision to allow the Hindu community to perform worship in the basement on january 31.

The allahabad high court, while rejecting the petition of the Masjid Arrangement Committee, stated that the Uttar Pradesh government had decided to discontinue the puja in 'Vyas ji's basement' in 1993. The court deemed the decision to prohibit worship in the southern basement of Gyanvapi as 'illegal'.
