bjp has made a grand comeback in the Municipal Corporation of delhi (MCD) on 25 april 2025. Sardar raja Iqbal Singh has become the new Mayor and jai Bhagwan Yadav has been elected Deputy Mayor. delhi bjp President Virendra Sachdeva congratulated both of them and said that now the functioning of MCD will come on track and the people of delhi will get better facilities.
Virendra Sachdeva said, "BJP's Mayor and Deputy Mayor have been elected, this has opened the way for the administration and civic services of the corporation to run properly. Now the speed of dealing with the filth, condition of roads and other problems in delhi will increase. He also told that the new Mayor will soon form a permanent committee of MCD, so that big decisions can be taken. We want the people of delhi to get the benefit of the triple engine government quickly. For this, a permanent committee will be formed soon, so that everything runs according to the MCD Act 1957".
One-sided victory in MCD mayor election
In the MCD mayor election held on april 25, BJP's raja Iqbal Singh won by 133 votes. Congress' Mandeep Singh got only 8 votes, that is, BJP's victory was one-sided. At the same time, jai Bhagwan Yadav was elected without any opposition to the post of Deputy Mayor, because congress candidate Ariba Khan withdrew her name. The special thing was that the aam aadmi party (AAP) boycotted the election this time and did not field any candidate. AAP said that bjp tried to capture the corporation through unethical means, so it stayed out.
Who are raja Iqbal Singh and jai Bhagwan Yadav?
raja Iqbal Singh has previously been the Mayor of North MCD and was currently the leader of Opposition in MCD. He was earlier associated with Shiromani Akali Dal, but joined bjp in 2020. jai Bhagwan Yadav is an old bjp leader and was the deputy leader of opposition in MCD. Now both of them have the responsibility to make delhi clean and better.
Meaning of triple engine government?
bjp says that now they have power in delhi at the centre, in the assembly with nominated MLAs and in the MCD. They are calling it a "triple engine government". Sachdeva said that this will lead to rapid development of Delhi. New mayor raja Iqbal Singh also promised that he will work day and night to provide better roads, cleanliness and other facilities to the people of Delhi.
