punjab cm bhagwant mann on monday (April 29) launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government over the water issue. He alleged that haryana has already exhausted its annual quota of water, yet the government is pressurizing haryana to give additional water through the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).
He said, "Another dirty trick is being played by the bjp central government on Punjab's water, we will not let it succeed at any cost. bjp is forcefully pressurizing Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) to give water to Haryana. Whereas haryana has already used its share of water.''
'Haryana exhausted its water quota by the end of March'
cm bhagwant mann clarified, "Under water-sharing agreements, punjab allocates water to haryana and rajasthan from May 21 to May 21 every year. This year, haryana had already exhausted its entire quota by the end of March, yet it is demanding more water for april and May."
All previous governments colluded - Bhagwant Mann
Launching a scathing attack on the previous governments of punjab, cm Mann said, "Earlier there was no transparent monitoring of which state was using how much water. All previous governments colluded and allowed others to take more water than their share. We have now streamlined this system."
'Don't expect a single extra drop from Punjab'
He also focused on the growing irrigation demands in punjab and said that the state does not have the capacity to provide extra water. bhagwant mann further said, "How can we give extra water to haryana when our own farmers need it? Despite this, we gave 4,000 cusecs of water on humanitarian grounds. Don't expect a single extra drop from Punjab. Water is the basic need of our farmers. Please stop pressurizing us."
