
A new rule regarding ATM charge has come into effect across the country from i.e. 1 May 2025. This announcement made by the bank OF INDIA' target='_blank' title='reserve bank of india-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>reserve bank of india will affect how many times you transact from your ATM every month and if you do it more than the prescribed limit, then how much will you have to pay now. RBI said in its notification, customers can do all five free transactions (financial and non-financial transactions) from their bank ATM every month. They can also do free transactions (financial and non-financial transactions) from ATMs of other banks.
Three transactions are free in metro cities while five free transactions are free from ATMs of other banks in non-metro places. RBI guidelines further state that after the fixed free transactions, a maximum of Rs 23 can be charged from the customers and this will come into effect from May 1, 2025.
In other words, the number of free ATM transactions depends on where you live. people living in metro cities can do three free transactions from other banks' ATMs, while those living in non-metro cities can do five free transactions from other banks' ATMs. This includes both financial transactions (such as withdrawing money) and non-financial (such as checking balance or taking out a mini statement). As soon as you cross this limit, the bank charges you.
From today i.e. May 1, 2025, if you use the ATM more than the set free limit, your bank can charge up to Rs 23, which was earlier Rs 21. This rate will be applicable to all whether you are withdrawing money or checking balance. This charge will also be applicable on Cash Recycler Machine (CRM), although this charge will not have to be paid on depositing money.
Many banks like hdfc, punjab National bank and IndusInd bank have already informed their customers about this revised charge. hdfc bank said that from May 2, 2025, the fee for transactions above the free limit will be increased to Rs 23 + applicable tax. The previous charge was Rs 21 + tax.
