Pakistan received foreign loans and grants of $16.08 billion in the first 10 months of 2024-25, while the annual target till june 30 was $19.2 billion. China, saudi arabia and uae have been its biggest helpers, from whom it got half of the share. This information was given by the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) on friday (May 23, 2025). According to Pakistani newspaper Dawn, EAD said in its monthly report on Foreign Economic Assistance (FEA) that FEA stood at $6.086 billion in July-April against its annual target of $19.4 billion, while in the same period last year it was $7.142 billion and the annual target was $17.6 billion. This does not include the $1 billion received from the IMF. This does not include the $1 billion investment made by the IMF last week.

How much help did it get from china, saudi arabia and UAE?

With three rollovers and new disbursements, pakistan has received a total of $16.08 billion in external aid. This included $3 billion from saudi arabia, $2 billion from uae and $3 billion from China. pakistan has a total annual rollover portfolio of safe deposits and loans from these three countries of about $12.7 billion, leaving the country's net international reserves (NIR) at about $3.3 billion.

Foreign economic assistance recorded by EAD showed that it fell by about 15 percent to about $6.086 billion in July-April, apparently due to the delay in the IMF bailout. Last year, it was $8.2 billion including the IMF.

Is pakistan dependent on these people?

EAD said it received loans worth about $706 million from foreign commercial lenders (UAE-based) in the 10 months of FY25, reflecting Pakistan's modest recovery from commercial banks last year. The government has also set a target of $1 billion in international bonds for the current year. A target of $9 billion investment from china and saudi arabia has been set for FY25. It has received $1.61 billion from Pakistanis living abroad. At the same time, the Asian Development bank gave it $1.253 billion and the World bank received $1.07 billion.
