Durgapur Rape Case: Victim’s father Apologizes to mamata banerjee, Calls Her ‘Mother-Like’
The father of the Durgmake this as 5 short headingsapur gang rape victim has publicly apologized to West bengal chief minister mamata banerjee, calling her “mother-like.”
Earlier, he had criticized mamata Banerjee’s government, comparing her rule to “Aurangzeb’s rule,” following the alleged gang rape of his daughter, a second-year MBBS student.
On Wednesday, two days after his criticism, the victim’s father expressed regret for his remarks, stating, “If I have said anything wrong, I ask for forgiveness. I see mamata banerjee as a mother figure.”
He appealed to the chief minister to ensure justice for his daughter and reiterated his wish to take her back to odisha once doctors declare her fit to travel.
The father also emphasized that his daughter’s safety is his top priority, saying, “Her life comes first, her career comes second.”
He added that he wanted a cbi investigation into the case, believing it would ensure a fair and transparent probe, though he acknowledged that the decision ultimately lies with the state government.
The victim’s father lamented that what happened to his daughter should not happen to “other daughters of Bengal.” He said, “Sonar Bangla should remain Sonar Bangla. But I am taking my daughter back home.”
The incident took place on october 10, when the MBBS student went out with her male friend to eat outside the medical college campus. She was allegedly gang-raped that evening.
Police have arrested six people, including the victim’s friend, in connection with the crime.
The case has triggered a political storm in West bengal, with opposition parties demanding accountability and questioning the government’s stance on women’s safety.
