The devotees have been allowed permission to travel to Pavurnami Kiriwalam after two years at Thiruvannamalai, according to collector P. Murugesh. When the corona pandemic began to spread in march 2020, the curfew was implemented. It was so forbidden to visit Pavurnami Kiriwalam in Thiruvannamalai for the first time in the month of Panguni in the year 2020. The ban on visiting Kiriwalam was then extended every month after that. On the route to Kiriwala, police were deployed to prevent more worshippers from trying to reach the shrine. The curfew was still in effect despite the curfew.

Meanwhile, Karthika Deepam was granted permission to visit Kiriwalam in november 2021 in answer to a matter pending in the chennai High Court. At the same time, devotees flocked to Kirivalam to pray on the day of Pavurnami, which followed the fire. district collector B. Murugesh then banned Pavurnami Kiriwalam once more. Thousands of worshippers marched in defiance of the Collector's restraining order at the same time. Due to the outburst of the devotees, the police who had stopped them also retreated.

The concern emerged as to why the ban was imposed exclusively on the Pavurnami gorge, despite the fact that the corona infection in tamil Nadu had been significantly reduced and regulated. Devotees also urged that the event not be outlawed on the Panguni month's full moon day. In this case, the two-year ban placed on Pavurnami Kiriwalam may be lifted.
