Ather Energy, the Bangalore-based electric vehicle startup, has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model for its Rizta and 450 series electric scooters. The Rizta is now priced starting at ₹75,999, while the 450 Series begins at ₹84,341 (ex-showroom, Lucknow).

Under this innovative model, scooter owners can opt for a monthly or per-kilometre payment for battery usage instead of an upfront battery cost. Pricing starts at ₹1 per kilometre, with options extending over three to four years. For those committing to a minimum of 1,000 km per month under the four-year BaaS plan, the cost remains around ₹1 per kilometre. This fixed-cost structure enables riders to manage their expenses effectively without concerns about battery degradation.

Batteries represent the most significant expense in electric scooters, often accounting for 30-40% of the total cost. By decoupling battery ownership, Ather can set scooter prices closer to those of petrol two-wheelers, making electric options more accessible for first-time buyers.

Additionally, new Ather scooter purchasers will receive a year of complimentary fast charging at over 3,300 public charging stations, helping to reduce charging costs and encouraging usage of the company’s extensive network.

The BaaS initiative also includes Ather's enhanced Assured Buyback programme, which guarantees a predetermined value for scooters when customers decide to upgrade, providing added confidence and flexibility. Moreover, Ather has made its Extended Comprehensive Warranty (ECW) available to AtherStack Pro customers, covering up to five years or 60,000 kilometres and encompassing the battery and 11 other essential components, including the motor and dashboard.
