Kangana Ranaut's comparison of india and afghanistan on the hijab issue has been questioned by veteran actress Shabana Azmi. On her social media feed, writer Anand Ranganathan shared a photo of how ladies dressed in iran fifty years ago and how they dress now. "If you want to show your courage, show up in afghanistan sans a burqa," bollywood actress kangana ranaut stated. "Learn to be free... not enslaved in a cave..."

"Clarify one thing for me... correct what I say if it is inaccurate," the iconic bollywood actress shabana azmi said in response to kangana Ranaut's remark. afghanistan is a secular country, but india was a secular democratic republic till the last time I visited it. Muslim students wearing hijab (veil) and burqa (full-length clothing) were denied entrance to colleges in various karnataka districts. In the midst of rallies and counter-protests, a case was filed in the karnataka High court in relation with the hijab issue.

According to Javed Akhtar, "I've never been a fan of the hijab or the burqa. I still believe it, but I have nothing but tremendous disgust for these hordes of hooligans who are attempting, but failing, to intimidate a tiny group of females. Is this how they define "MANLINESS"? What a shame." "Secular individuals like me have the right (and have always had) to criticise burqa and hijab," he continued, "but not those who wear saffron shawls on their shoulders."
