doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available in theatres, and it's chock-full of easter eggs and references. stephen Strange, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the eponymous sorcerer, is literally flung across the multiverse in this epic new chapter of the MCU as he strives to safeguard a young new hero with the potential to destroy every world in existence. As a result, many of the easter eggs presented involve other versions of the same character, new characters introduced that live in alternate realities, and new uses of magic, such as when doctor Strange meets Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch (in a less than pleasant reunion).

Doctor Strange 2 is a large project with a myriad of links, unlike some of the more self-contained MCU projects that have lately been launched. There are many connections not only to the MCU, but also to other portions of Marvel Comics that exist elsewhere in the huge multiverse that has been created. The new Marvel picture serves as a springboard for future sequels, including doctor Strange 3 and possibly an Avengers-level crossover.

Defender Strange

America Chavez's first encounter with stephen Strange in doctor Strange 2 is a version dressed in his Defenders costume from the comics, when the original team consisted of Hulk, Namor, silver Surfer, and himself. A ponytail completes the look (to to the chagrin of the main Strange). Defender Strange was also shown to be the Sorcerer supreme of his reality and spoke Spanish.

Book of Vishanti

The Book of Vishanti is a magical book that may provide a sorcerer whatever they need to win. It was created by the first Sorcerer supreme Agamotto and the god-like creatures known as the Vishanti. The book was sought after by many Stranges in doctor Strange 2 in an attempt to defeat the Scarlet Witch, which was held in a space between universes.

The Darkhold
The Darkhold is a tome known as the Book of the Damned, which is the polar opposite of the Book of the Vishanti. Wanda Maximoff stole Agatha Harkness from Agatha Harkness at the end of WandaVision, and the book's corrupting power blackened Wanda's spirit, leaving her determined to be reunited with her children at any cost.

"Grand Calculus Of The Multiverse" (No Way home Quote)
Defender Strange attempted to kill America Chavez and take her ability to explore the multiverse before his demise. Strange utilised the same words and argument as main Strange in Spider-Man: No Way home to justify his decision: "In the big mathematics of the multiverse, their sacrifice signifies far more than their deaths." While Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was referring to allowing Spider-multiverse Man's opponents to die, the other Defender Strange uses the same argument to justify his plan to assassinate America.

Gargantos/Shuma-Gorath
Another monster, Gargantos, was attempting to take America Chavez. Gargantos being summoned by the Scarlet Witch to do her bidding mirrors the Strange supreme in Marvel's What If...?, who summoned his own supernatural creatures, and is based on the legendary doctor Strange antagonist Shuma-Gorath.

Doctor Strange Summoning Axe

Doctor Strange summons a combat axe during his encounter with Gargantos, which could very likely be the Axe of Angarruumus. In a 2015 comic book run by Jason Aaron and chris Bachalo, he used this as a devastating weapon.

Comics Spells Used Against Gargantos

Some of the spells used by doctor Strange and the current Sorcerer supreme Wong during the Gargantos battle appear to have comic book parallels, such as the Demons of Denak (the giant disembodied monster hands). The Krakkan Chains are also used to try to restrain the beast.

Spider-Man Conversation
During doctor Strange and Wong's chat with America Chavez regarding the universe, Spider-Man and the events of Spider-Man: No Way home are mentioned. This includes a question regarding where his webs come from (similar to tom Holland's question about Tobey Maguire's organic webs).

WandaVision Theme
Doctor Strange proposes that they seek the assistance of Wanda Maximoff after learning that Gargantos was summoned via witchcraft. Wanda is still dreaming about her children in the fictional world she constructed (and was forced to destroy) in the phoney reality around the town of Westview at this point, with the Disney+ series' theme playing in the background.

Other Masters Of The Mystic Arts

Kamar-Taj was fortified in preparation for the Scarlet Witch's imminent invasion in her goal to claim America and her power, while other Masters of the Mystic Arts arrived from all over the world to lend a hand. This includes Scottish masters, one of whom said to Wong, "What an honour it is to court death with you once more." As a result, the statement "courting death" feels like a nod to Thanos the Mad Titan.

Master Hamir
Outside, while Strange and Wong fought Wanda, master Hamir was seen protecting America Chavez. In the first doctor Strange, master Hamir was the sorcerer whom stephen mistook for the Ancient One.

Rintrah The Minotaur
Among the collected Masters of the Mystic Arts is Rintrah the Minotaur. Rintrah is a legendary comic book character who is actually an alien with a natural affinity for magic. He was even doctor Strange's apprentice at one point, and he is now a full-fledged sorcerer teaching at Strange's magically gifted school in the comics.

Vision's Infinity war Death
Despite the fact that Vision's role in doctor Strange 2 was limited, his presence was felt prior to the Scarlet Witch's clash with Kamar-Taj. The apparent futility of ripping a hole in Vision's head intensified her fury and determination to reclaim her children.

Scarlet Witch References The Ring
Wanda entered Kamar-Taj through a gong's reflection, her body twisting and contorting as she emerged headfirst, much to Samara in The Ring.

Vipers Of Valtorr

Doctor Strange sued the Vipers of Valtorr, another iconic comics spell, while rescuing America from the Scarlet Witch.
