On Tuesday, the Cyberabad police announced that they had cracked a significant sex ring, arrested 17 people, and freed over 14,000 victims, some of whom were international nationals. The scam, according to Cyberabad police Commissioner stephen Ravindra, was run online from Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The accused were recruiting women from various locations throughout India, placing online ads, getting in touch with clients via call centres and whatsapp, helping clients locate the victims in different hotels and oyo rooms, and obtaining payment for this organised prostitution ring.

Prostitution affected 14,190 victims in all. West bengal accounted for 50% of the victims, followed by karnataka with 20% and maharashtra with 15%. Victims from Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and russia made up 3% of the total. Websites like "Locanto," "Skokka," "Hyderabadescorts," "Callgirls in hyderabad," "Luxuryescortservices," "myheavenmodels.com," and "natasharoy.in" were used to run the scam. The primary method of communication for the call centers, which were run out of Delhi, Bengaluru, and hyderabad, was whatsapp groups.

At four police stations in Cyberabad, the accused have been lodged as suspects under Section 370 of the indian Penal Code (IPC), which prohibits the purchase or sale of anyone as a slave, as well as Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. 40 cases were previously filed at the Cyberabad and hyderabad Commissionerates against the 15 organisers, and in the majority of those cases, they fled the scene.

Several pimps from various states were present during the accused's interrogation and confession, and they had formed various whatsapp groups with related members, including business organizers, suppliers, ad creators, and call centre employees. These members communicated with one another for the business. Many victims were drawn into this line of work by promises of a luxurious lifestyle, quick money, and in some cases, the promise of jobs.
