Hyderabad, one of India's major IT cities, is facing a severe water shortage this summer. Due to this, the demand for private water tankers has increased significantly across Hyderabad. Although the hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) already operates 10,000 tankers, the western and central areas like Kondapur, Mathapur, and Kachibowli have become dependent on private tankers. Due to this crisis, people living in these areas have been forced to spend thousands of rupees a week on water alone. hyderabad is facing an unprecedented water shortage this summer. Private tanker operators deliver 5 to 6 tankers daily, and the demand for water tankers is high in areas like Kondapur, Madhapur, and Kachibowli.

The price of private water tankers has increased significantly compared to last year, with a 25,000-litre tanker costing Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,000, while a 10,000-litre tanker costs Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000. The price hike has hit people living in key areas like Kondapur, Mathapur, and Kachibowli the hardest. “Last year we did not buy any tanker water, but this year we have to buy water and use it. We usually get water for 7-8 hours, but now we get it for only 3-4 hours,” ravi Shankar, a resident of a gated community in Kondapur, told The Times.
Boreholes have dried up in many parts of the city, further exacerbating the water problem. “Earlier, water was available at a depth of 600 meters. But now, even after digging 1,200 meters, water is not available.” As a result, apartment complexes are completely dependent on private tankers. Each family has to buy water at a cost of Rs 2,500 per week. It is estimated that this could rise to Rs 3,000 in May and June. This water shortage is severely affecting the daily lives of hyderabad residents. The high-end residential areas in the west and central regions are particularly affected.
