The 2025 IPL series, which was suspended on May 8, is set to resume from May 17. In this situation, information is being released that some foreign players will not participate in the restarting IPL series. In this situation, the IPL management committee has made a drastic rule change. Accordingly, it has been announced that each team can temporarily select replacement players to replace the foreign players who have left their team.
This temporary replacement player selection will be valid only until the end of the 2025 IPL series. It is said that no team will be able to retain these replacement players next year. Accordingly, if a player withdraws because he cannot play in the remaining matches, he can be retained before the next year's IPL series if he wants to retain him. But now, players who are selected as substitutes only for the remaining matches cannot be retained before next year's IPL series. They will play only for these few matches. This is the new rule change. This rule change has given some relief to the IPL teams. Because information is being released that some foreign players from royal challengers Bangalore, delhi Capitals, chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers hyderabad are not going to participate in the remaining matches. Therefore, those teams can temporarily select replacement players.

The play-off round will be held after the remaining league matches, which will start from May 17, have over. The IPL final is scheduled to be held on june 3. Three teams, chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers hyderabad, and rajasthan Royals, have already lost their chance to advance to the playoffs. Therefore, even if those teams lose the services of foreign players, it will not cause any major loss. However, the royal challengers Bangalore team, which is leading in the points table, will be the most affected. The absence of Australian fast bowler josh Hazlewood, who is part of that team, is seen as a major setback for that team.
