Heart specialist and functional medicine specialist Dr. Alok Chopra gives his instagram followers wellness and health advice. He explains the causes of this prevalent trend in his post. See the video below,
"Why do so many indian women and men have slender arms and legs but belly fat? It goes beyond "bad genes." Dr. Chopra captioned the photo, "We break down the real reasons behind this body pattern and what you can do about it, from a high-carb diet to chronic stress and poor sleep." He explains in the video, "Let's talk about the belly. The one most indian men carry around like it's normal. It's not." He further lists out the reasons.
1. A carb-heavy, low-quality diet
"Roti for dinner, bread for breakfast, rice for lunch, and samosas for snacks in between." It's a lot of carbohydrates. Dr. Chopra explains, "It's just being overfed; it's not normal." He also highlights the fixation with dairy, inadequate fiber intake, and overreliance on processed grains. "At every meal, paneer, milk, and curd? That isn't beneficial. Limit dairy to once per day at most.
2. Chronic stress and emotional eating
Emotional eating is fueled by long work hours, constant stress, and inadequate sleep. Even if the scale doesn't change much elsewhere, Dr. Chopra says this cycle is a big factor in weight increase around the belly.
3. Lack of real movement
Most individuals believe that a leisurely walk in the park is sufficient. "People have been walking around the same park for 20 years and that belly's still right there walking with them," quips the comedian. The remedy? "Swing your arms, walk quickly, and perspire a lot. Spend at least forty minutes doing it. This is cardio that burns fat, not a troll.
4. Low Food Quality
According to Dr. Chopra, the majority of people no longer consume actual, entire foods. "No whole fruits, very little fiber, and too much trash. Your diet should support you rather than hinder you.
5. Blaming it all on genetics
"Sure, your body type plays a role but that doesn't mean you're stuck with it," asserts Dr. Chopra. He emphasizes that regardless of your genetic makeup, lifestyle decisions still have a significant influence.
