“I have declared a local emergency and issued a curfew for downtown Los Angeles to prevent vandalism and looting,” Mayor Bass said at an evening press conference. “If you do not live or work in downtown Los Angeles, please avoid the area. Violators will be arrested and prosecuted,” he warned.
Los Angeles curfew exemptions:
Residents, employees, authorized media, and the homeless are exempt from the curfew, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell confirmed.

Los Angeles protests:
The order comes after riots sparked by a series of federal immigration raids in Westlake District, downtown and South Los Angeles. Since last Friday, protesters have clashed with law enforcement, resulting in nearly 200 arrests, CBS news reported. According to Mayor Bass, at least 23 businesses had been looted as of monday night. The growing Los Angeles protests have drawn national attention. US President donald trump deployed thousands of california National Guard troops and 700 US Marines to protect federal buildings, a move taken without the consent of california Governor Kevin Newsom. “Donald trump is adding fuel to the fire,” Newsom wrote in his X post on Sunday. “It is illegal; unethical to order a state’s National Guard without consulting the governor. california will take him to court.” Despite the curfew and heavy security, protesters have announced that they will continue their protests against the unjust oppression of immigrant communities.
