Since late last year, there have been varying rumors circulating on the progress of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's unnamed Star Wars film. At one point, "New Jedi Order" was reportedly a top priority, but it appears Lucasfilm may have decided to put the project on hold once more. Scooper Daniel Richtman claims that the Rey movie has been put on hold once more because james Mangold and Shawn Levy's Star Wars movies are going ahead first. The project has been placed on temporary hold, not cancelled.

Given that a new writer was never formally assigned following Steven Knight's departure from the project, this shouldn't be too shocking. However, this does not necessarily mean that we will not soon see daisy Ridley's Rey again in the galaxy far, far away.

According to a new THR story, Rey "Skywalker" is essential to the franchise's future.  She is anticipated to feature in a number of additional projects (though it is unclear which ones) in addition to the new trilogy that writer and producer Simon Kinberg is working on (X-Men: Dark Phoenix).

One source told the website, "She is the most valuable cinematic asset, in some ways the only one, Star Wars has right now."

According to THR's report, Kinberg's trilogy may ultimately influence the evolution of New Jedi Order.

"The franchise's next direction depends on daisy Ridley's portrayal of Rey, the scavenger-turned-Jedi in the final three episode films. Although Kinberg's trilogy tale is still in its early conceptual stages, this might put it in danger of colliding with the Rey standalone film, which is currently being developed with filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

In an interview with Premiere last year, Ridley discussed her decision to return as the formidable Force-wielder and gave her reasons for doing so.

"They didn't have the screenplay yet; they just asked if I wanted to do it based on an idea.  However, the film would not have been produced if I had not been persuaded by the idea.  After giving it some thought, I persuaded myself that I had a lot of fun making those movies.

"I thought this new trip would be enjoyable, so why not accept it?  My opinions on the matter are rather straightforward: I wouldn't have returned if I didn't believe the tale was worthwhile.
