Chennai:
Veteran indian film producer A.V.M. Saravanan, a towering figure in tamil cinema, passed away at the age of 86 due to age-related ailments. His death has triggered an outpouring of grief across India, with leading film personalities, political leaders, and fans expressing heartfelt condolences. As one of the pillars of indian film production, Saravanan’s passing marks the end of an illustrious chapter in South indian cinema.
Among those who paid homage in person was Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin. Speaking emotionally at the funeral venue, the chief minister emphasised that Saravanan was not merely a producer but an institution who shaped tamil cinema for several decades.
Stalin remarked, “If someone simply rolls up their sleeves and wears a white shirt, they do not become AVM Saravanan. Such greatness is not achieved through appearance, but through decades of hard work, discipline, and unparalleled contribution.” His words highlighted the depth of Saravanan’s legacy and the irreplaceable position he holds in the history of tamil cinema.
The chief minister further reflected on the extraordinary role played by AVM Studios, founded by Saravanan’s father A.V. Meiyappan and carried forward with dedication by Saravanan himself. He noted that the AVM banner did not merely produce films—it shaped the very direction of tamil cinema, setting benchmarks in storytelling, technology, discipline, and production quality.
“Just as AVM Studios transformed the path of tamil cinema, Saravanan transformed the path of AVM Studios,” stalin said, describing the producer’s contributions as immeasurable. He praised Saravanan’s commitment to nurturing new talent, investing in fresh ideas, and maintaining a professional work culture that later became a model for the entire industry.
Throughout his career, Saravanan was known for backing landmark films that launched or elevated the careers of numerous stars and technicians. His productions played a crucial role in bridging generations of filmmakers—connecting the golden era with the modern age of tamil cinema.
Film icons, directors, technicians, political leaders, and supporters from across the state continued to arrive to pay their respects, underscoring the vast influence Saravanan had on both cinema and society.
As tamil Nadu bids farewell to this cinematic giant, AVM Saravanan leaves behind a legacy built on passion, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to the art of filmmaking—one that will continue to inspire generations to come.
