Member of parliament kanimozhi has criticized the Union government for failing to allocate adequate funds for the development and promotion of classical languages. Speaking at a public event, she stated that despite the rich cultural and historical significance of classical languages, the central government has not been extending the necessary financial support required to preserve and nurture them.
Kanimozhi emphasized that classical languages are not merely means of communication but are repositories of ancient knowledge, literature, and identity. She pointed out that the neglect of these languages reflects a lack of commitment toward cultural diversity and linguistic heritage.
Recalling historical injustices, kanimozhi said that there was a time when education itself was denied to large sections of society. She stressed that the pain and struggle behind such denial of education should be recognized and understood even today. According to her, the promotion of classical languages must go hand in hand with ensuring equal access to education and knowledge.
She further called upon the Union government to take concrete steps to provide adequate funding and institutional support for the preservation, research, and global promotion of classical languages. Her remarks were welcomed by scholars, language activists, and members of the public who have long been advocating for stronger measures to protect India’s linguistic diversity.
