Chief minister M. K. stalin inaugurated eight completed development projects and laid the foundation stone for thirteen new initiatives under the Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare Department. The event took place on March 4, 2026, at the secretariat in Chennai.

These initiatives aim to improve infrastructure, strengthen the fishing sector, and enhance the livelihood and welfare of fishermen across tamil Nadu.

Strengthening the Fisheries Sector

The projects implemented by the tamil Nadu Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare Department are designed to modernize the fisheries sector and support the fishing community with better facilities and services.

The completed projects that were inaugurated include various infrastructure developments such as fishing harbors, landing centers, and welfare facilities for fishermen.

Foundation for 13 New Development Projects

Along with inaugurating completed works, the chief minister also laid the foundation stones for 13 new projects aimed at expanding fisheries infrastructure and providing modern amenities to fishermen.

These new projects are expected to improve:

Fish landing and storage facilities

Safety measures for fishermen

Infrastructure at fishing harbors

Community welfare centers

Such initiatives will contribute to the long-term development of the fisheries sector in the state.
