
India's telecom sector is still led by reliance jio and Bharti airtel, which brought the widest variety of subscribers in march 2025. TRAI records show a constant upward trend in overall wireless and 5g fixed wireless access (FWA) connections, pushed largely via rural expansion.
Jio and airtel capture seventy-nine percent of the Wi-Fi broadband marketplace.
Reliance jio maintained its dominance with 465.10 million wireless broadband subscribers, at the same time as airtel accompanied with 280.76 million. Together, they commanded almost seventy-nine percent of the whole wireless broadband segment.
Vodafone idea held third place with 126.40 million subscribers, showing minimum trade. bsnl continued to path with 30.23 million, suffering due to its behind-schedule 4G rollout and restrained competitiveness.
Rural india Fuels mobile Growth
Overall, Wi-Fi (mobile + 5g FWA) subscribers grew to 1,163.76 million in march, up from 1,160.33 and sixty.33 million in february, registering a growth rat of 0.28 percent.
Rural areas accounted for the bulk of this growth, with 0.49 percentage growth in subscriptions compared to just 0.06 percent in city facilities. This shift highlights the untapped potential of rural connectivity in India.
5G FWA profits momentum.
The 5g constant wireless access person base rose from 6.27 million in february to 6.77 million in March. Of these, 4.26 million had been from city regions, while 2.51 one million had been rural users. Eac jio and airtel had been aggressively advertising and marketing their FWA offerings, but TRAI has yet to release operator-wise figures for this section.
MNP requests imply high churn.
A total of thirteen.fifty four million cellular range portability (MNP) requests were filed in march 2025, bringing the cumulative MNP count number to over 1.11 billion. The high extent of portability requests underlines the continuing competition inside the telecom marketplace and the rising expectations of mobile users throughout the country.
