After a shooter invaded a Nigerian jail, more than 800 inmates managed to flee. The attack on a Nigerian jail by a gun-toting mob, which resulted in the liberation of roughly 800 inmates, has sparked widespread outrage.

This is Nigeria's third jail attack in the continent's most populous country. There has been a significant jail escape episode reported there, and the occurrence, which has not even been completed for a year, raises serious concerns about the safety of Nigerian detention facilities.

The incident, which occurred in southwestern Nigeria, has sparked fresh debate at a time when officials are already fighting to curb the country's escalating violence.

Several gunmen invaded the prison late friday and the amount of the damage is not yet and the incident is still under investigation. Since 2017, at least 4,307 convicts have escaped from jails with only a few being recovered by security forces.

A considerable number of survivors of similar attacks are yet to be convicted and are still awaiting trial. Terrorist groups such as IS, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, and other insurgent groups operate in Nigeria, a West African country. Gangs also operate smuggling civilians, schoolchildren, and cattle for money.

Meanwhile, in the country's oyo province detainees were imprisoned on charges of terrorism, murder, and robbery. Following this, a mob armed with firearms, grenades, and terror weapons stormed a prison in oyo province yesterday, attacking prison officers indiscriminately.

Following the event, security forces started a massive search effort. A total of 262 fugitives were apprehended and imprisoned.
