In the past few years, theatre plays and musicals have regularly been adapted from films. An remake of Kenny Ortega's 1992 musical film Newsies made its stage debut in 2011, and it even started playing on Broadway in 2012. Disney's stage production had its big-screen premiere in february 2017 not long after nationwide tours. The history of Michael Lehmann's 1989 cult film Heathers is comparable. The musical was eventually brought to off-Broadway after a brief run to small audiences in 2013. The musical Heathers is still being performed in london today after undergoing multiple revivals throughout the years.

The narrative centres on a core group of Westerberg High students who dream of a better tomorrow in a school full of nobodies. All of Veronica Sawyer's dreams of fame start to come true when she is taken under the wing of a popular group. Veronica is an outcast and socially isolated student. But The Heathers don't end up being everything Veronica had hoped. And to make matters worse, a mysterious young rebel named JD appears. Despite his beautiful looks, JD turns out to be a destructive and dangerous influence. Veronica learns from him to have no fear, but at a price. And Veronica will be the one responsible for tidying up his bloody messes.

Fans of the narrative will enjoy some of the great moments in Heathers: The Musical. Due to certain thoughtful adjustments made for the audience and social atmosphere of today, the story is just as good as the original, if not better. By modifying the script, the comedy has been made to work better. Although today's youth are all too familiar with issues like bullying, violence, emotional abuse, sexual assault, and suicide, Heathers: The Musical doesn't back down from addressing these issues. Even when humour is employed to temper what would otherwise be disturbing information, the movie musical's script effectively conveys these principles while discussing them.

The musical by Andy Fickman has a lot going for it despite a few issues with adapting the stage piece to the big screen. The script includes some extremely serious subjects, yet it does so in a lighthearted manner. The best thing about his theatre piece, which was originally written by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O'Keefe, is how politely and humorously these subjects are handled.
