"The Last of Us," starring Pedro Pascal, has emerged as the most pirated tv show in 2023, surpassing the long-standing popularity of "Game of Thrones," which held the top spot for a significant period. The statistics indicate a shift in the landscape of pirated content, with "The Last of Us" outpacing even the concluding seasons of "Game of Thrones."

One contributing factor to the change in ranking is the conclusion of the "Game of Thrones" series. As it came to an end, new shows like "The Last of Us" gained attention and curiosity among viewers, leading to increased piracy. "HBO's 'House of the Dragon'" secured the top position as the most pirated show in 2022, following the dominance of Disney+Hotstar' "WandaVision" and "The Mandalorian" in 2020-2021.

The newcomer "Ahsoka" lagged behind "The Mandalorian" in piracy. Notably, Netflix shows were absent from the list of the top 10 most pirated shows. The popularity of "The Last of Us" and other pirated content is indicative of the ongoing challenges in the streaming landscape. Some OTT subscribers resort to piracy rather than adding another subscription to their list, reflecting a fragmented streaming environment.

Netflix, however, stands out as a dominant streaming platform, and its releases are noticeably absent from piracy rankings. The survey is based on BitTorrent traffic, providing insights into the preferences and behaviors of viewers who engage in piracy. It highlights the complex dynamics of the evolving streaming industry, where factors such as subscription costs and content availability influence viewer choices.
