Former prime minister Imran Khan's pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party once again warned the government led by prime minister Shehbaz Sharif. The party said that if the date for the next general elections was not announced by december 20, it would dissolve the assemblies of punjab and khyber pakhtunkhwa provinces. Former information minister and PTI senior vice-chairman Fawad Chaudhary said in a tweet that the leaders of the government do not want elections and have no idea how to run the country.

He criticized the members of the pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led ruling coalition, saying the country's affairs are not run through ministerial appointments and foreign visits. If the pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) does not come up with a formula for holding general elections by december 20, the punjab and KP Assemblies will be dissolved.

Chaudhary said that pakistan needs political stability which is not possible without a stable government. He said that the process of general elections in both the provinces would be completed by march 20 and PTI has full faith in its allies on this issue. Earlier, Chaudhary had said that punjab Chief minister punjab Chaudhary Parvez Elahi had suggested extending the date for dissolution of the provincial assemblies.

Elahi had said on december 5 that he did not see elections happening in the next four months. In an interview with a private news channel, he had said that the elections could not be held before four months, the federal and provincial governments needed time to work and the elections could be delayed beyond october next year. The term of the current National assembly will end in august 2023.

Meanwhile, Suleman Shahbaz, the fugitive son of Pakistani prime minister Shahbaz Sharif, returned to his country in the early hours of Sunday. He had been living in london for about four years. He will face corruption charges here. Suleman was living in london after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed cases against him and his family ahead of the 2018 general elections. He joined the investigation for a few days, but then went to London. The Islamabad High court, while hearing a petition by Suleman a few days back, had restrained the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the NAB from arresting him in the money laundering case. The court had directed him to surrender before december 13.
