The bjp government has been spying on people through phone tapping for several years said, Siddaramaiah former chief minister of karnataka on Friday. He made allegations amid reports of Pegasus spyware scandal emerged recently.

Addressing media reporters on the Pegasus project which allegedly targeted the phones of politicians and journalists over the past few years, the senior congress leader claimed that even his Personal Assistant phone was tapped in 2019.

"In 2019 my PA Venkatesh's phone was tapped. Even the phones of Dr G Parameshwar, HD Kumarswamy and others were tapped. This is not new for BJP. The saffron party did whatever was needed to topple our coalition government. An enquiry should be held by a supreme Court-led committee," he said.

"It is an assassination of democracy, When governments tap phones of Judges. They have no moral right to remain in power," he added.

When asked about change of chief minister in karnataka, Siddaramaiah demanded that the bjp should announce a Dalit name for cm post for the upcoming assembly elections.

"The bjp just talks about social justice and Nalin Kumar suggested that we announce a Dalit candidate. In the past the congress had many Dalit Chief Ministers. Now it is the BJP's turn. They should do it now. It's the right time to show their love towards the Dalit community," the former cm said.
