At the wedding of Saudi architect Rajwa Al Saif and Jordan's Crown prince Hussein bin Abdullah on Thursday, royals from all over the world were present. The event was held at the capital city of Amman's Zahran Palace from the 1950s, which also hosted important Hashemite kingdom weddings including those of king Abdullah II and queen Rania and his late father, king Hussein bin Talal.

At a wedding ceremony attended by their families and 140 guests, including the US First Lady Jill Biden and the prince and Princess of wales of Great Britain, the King's oldest son and Al Saif, both 28 years old, exchanged vows.

Samih Maaytah, a former communications minister, earlier told AFP that king Abdullah II, who is 61 years old and has been in the throne since 1999, has long been preparing his eldest son to replace him by taking him on significant travels and to meetings. After his father stripped his half-brother Hamzah of the crown in 2004, prince Hussein was named the new successor to the kingdom in 2009. After being charged with attempting to organise a royal coup in 2021 that shocked the royal establishment, Hamzah would eventually be put under house arrest.
