prime minister Narendra Modi is all set to embark on an important visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this week as part of his extensive diplomatic tour. He will reach uae after ending his france trip. The PM will be in france on July 13 and will attend the Bastille Day parade as the chief guest. This will be PM Modi's fifth visit to the gulf country uae since taking office in 2014, underscoring the growing importance of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Earlier he had visited uae in june 2022, august 2019, february 2018 and august 2015. During his last visit in june 2022, prime minister Modi met Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President and ruler of Abu Dhabi, to offer condolences on the demise of former President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The gesture reflected the deep personal ties between the two leaders, and their commitment to further enhance ties between india and the UAE.
The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between india and the uae last year has played an important role in boosting bilateral trade. During the last year, the agreement has had a significant impact on India's exports to uae, both in terms of oil and non-oil products. Trade volume between the two countries has reached a historic high, increasing from $72.9 billion in FY 2021-2022 to $84.5 billion in FY 2022-2023, a significant year-on-year growth of 16 percent depicts.
Apart from economic cooperation, defense interaction between india and uae has seen a steady growth. Regular exchanges at the highest levels including service chiefs, functional level engagements and military education exchanges have further strengthened bilateral defense cooperation. Both countries have regularly conducted joint naval exercises and port calls, which have promoted mutual trust and camaraderie between their armed forces. The annual Defense Dialogue provides a platform to discuss and enhance security and defense cooperation between india and the United Arab Emirates.
