Tension has increased between india and Canada. First the diplomats of both the countries were suspended
and now New delhi has indefinitely suspended visa services for Canadian citizens. This is the biggest step
taken by india so far. Tension between the two countries increased when the Canadian PM accused india of
the murder of Khalistan supporter Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
According to Hindustan Times report, no formal announcement has been made on suspension of visa services.
However, BLS International, which runs visa application centers in canada, has posted a message in this
regard on its Canadian website. The message read, Important information from the indian Mission: Due to
operational reasons, indian visa services have been suspended from thursday (21 september 2023) until
further notice.
indian official confirmed
An indian official confirmed the suspension but declined to comment on the matter. “The language is clear
and it says what it wants to say,” he said. This is the first time that india has suspended visas after the Covid-
19 pandemic. Earlier, an advisory was issued by the Ministry of External Affairs asking indian citizens going
to canada to be careful. Do not go to any area where anti-India incidents have taken place or there is a
possibility that such incidents may happen. Hate crimes have increased in canada and be careful when going
there.
